Post by: owie on June 16, 2003, 10:42:48 AM

shares are available so samba seems to be working
 win xpsp1 workstations.
workstaion joins the domain, reboot
then you get the following message on attempt to login to the domain:
windows cannot connect to the domain, either because the domain controller is down or otherwise unavailable, or because your computer account was not found. Please try again later.

any help greatly appreciated

I take it you did search on here for the numerous people that have witnessed the same problem and been told the necessary fix for XP machines? There are 2 methods of solving the problem - one is a reg hack and the other I believe you set through the control panel. XP is set by default to use encrypted data that SME needs transmitted using basic authentication.

as an update i found a reference to the same style of problem.the machine in question had a few names. I went through the process of deleting machine accounts for ALL of the names that the box has had( as per Darrell May's SAMBA contrib) and re applied the XP reg key and it worked.
