Title: Help - DNS hell!
Post by: Gary on June 16, 2003, 04:21:14 PM
Installed SME 5.6 into my network of Win2k domain controllers - it's directly attached to a cisco router and thence onto a leased internet line, so at the moment the lan is using the SME as a proxy but I intend to make it the primary DC and remove the Win boxes. Problem is at the moment DNS issues are causing havoc on the network. Applications hang, log on can be v. slow etc. etc. - I had SME as a dhcp server and removed the services from the Windows boxes - client machines wouldn't work with that? So stopped DHCP and let windows do it again - fine however I have to set the pri dns as the sme for clients to access the internet - then that causes the hanging issues - so I make the pri dns the WIndows box and put sme proxy settings into IE - now back on the net again but FTP won't work - aaarrgghh. I've also tried making it domain master but no changes there either.

Why is DNS behaving like this - am I doing something horribly wrong? I'd like everything to work from the sme box - dhcp, dns the lot but something ain't right!
