Title: PPTP security.
Post by: Allen on June 19, 2003, 07:57:34 PM
Well, thanks to the help here on the forums I was able to resolve my PPTP issues with my SME box from home. Works great!

I'm in the process of documenting the setup/procedures for some of our remote users, but I had a question first.

How secure is the PPTP? I'm assuming it's running 128 bit encryption? I haven't found a whole lot of documentation about it. Is PPTP the best solution to VPN into the box remotely?

I've used some other VPN solutions in the past (Avaya, and Cisco stuff) and they were all IPSec.

Thoughts? comments?

thanks!

Well once you have documented it for your users why not contribute it to the community in the form of a FAQ.

pptp connections on SME are forced 128-bit. 40-bit connections are refused.

Thanks for the confirmation!  That's the info i needed.

The submitted FAQ idea is great. I'll try to see what I can whip up and get it submitted.

thanks Graeme and RequestedDeletion!
