Title: Signal 7 error
Post by: Russell Best on May 20, 2001, 03:48:33 PM
I have been trying to onstall e-smith 4.1.1 for some time, but each time I try the installation exits with a "signal 7 error". Reading through the phroum (and anything else I can find) these errors are attributed to either a bad CD or hardware problems.

I burned the CD using "easy CD creator" (as per the instructions elsewhere in the phorum) but I am unsure how to verify I have a good copy.

I have tried the install on 2 machines (P133 & P166 with 32Mb RAM) using 2 hard disks (10Gb & a brand new 20Gb) with all combinations of availible RAM, each time I get this signal 7 error at the same point of the install.

I would be grateful if someone can tell me how to confirm my CD is good and/or how to identify where the hardware problem lies.

Reburn the CD.

Solved the problem. In case anyone else is interested it turned out to be having the install CD drive and target hard drive on the same IDE channel.
