Title: Bandwidth limiting panel - in progress
Post by: Jonathan Storey on June 26, 2003, 07:06:23 PM
Hi,
just trying to gauge interest in the creation of a e-smith manager panel to configure bandwidth on a per ip / net basis.  I have the guts sorted, just need to do the web based parts & make it look pretty.  If anyone has any pointers on creating custom panels (i'm just about to search through these very forums for some answers...) then please get in touch - all help welcome.  Will end up being an rpm once i read up on rpm creation!!

Regards

Hi Jonathan,

We have already done that (more or less). Currently is available in Spanish. Today (I promise) will contact contribs.org to place the updated version, and specially the english and french version that other members have thankfully done.

I will annaounce it in dev list.

  Regards.

Hi,
I'm currios if it allso can controll the bandwith per port (type 25/110) for email and 21 for ftp and so on ? or is it just IP/subnet that are in the package ?

I think that there are other people that are intressted in that type of functionality as well.

Kind regards
Mats

It's basically just a parameterised script that uses cbq qdisks to limit in & out banadwidth.  Can be totally modded so it can restrict bandwidth to an ip or net , a particular source port / destination port or anything else you could filter on.  Took ages to figure out cbq, qdiscs & classes but well worth it!!

Are you going to be releasing it under the GPL at all? I would be interest in using this.

Cheers Joe

is it for the "old" 5.6 or just for the new 6.x?

I'm currently building on a 5.6, but i'll get it working on the 6 beta2 & 5.5 if i have some free time (we still use 5.5 in a lot of our sites, 5.6 was just a bit too buggy for pptp but the updates kinda sorted that.)

Jonathan,

cbq should work the same on all the platforms,  if it is the same package? Anyone know how to check version of cbq?

I think the differences would be the panels and how they work, there is not much difference between 5.6 and 5.6, but it sounds like there is a big change in the new beta (aka 6.2beta)?

If you need someone to beta test, I'll put my hand up :-)

Go for it.
All my customers have had problems with staff on the net at some time or another.

It would be nice to limit WEB without affecting Email at all.
A simple admin panel with selection of limits for each port would be nice.

Hi all,
Jonathan i think that you are really on to something.  I can't wait til you release it so i can try it in a production environment.

As a side note does anyone know when they will finish testing the betas and release Version 6 ?

Mitel never gives release dates.
It has always been like this :)

I started to do some bandwith limiting using CBQ as well. Info on using CBQ is scarce and cryptyc. If you could post links to good how-to it would be usefull as well.

Cheers.

Marc,

There is a CBQ howto, do a search for lightman and cbq how to and you will find it.

Marc,

make sure that you have the search set to all dates, not last 30 days, I found it first go :-)
