Title: antivir check
Post by: MadPat on June 27, 2003, 11:21:56 PM
i did a test if the antivir for the mail server is working, but when i see the result i'm getting scarred.
i've did the test on http://www.gfi.com/emailsecuritytest/ and of the the 15 e-mail 2 where blocked. So 13 where passed through.

Does anybody have experience with this.
i'm using SME 5.5 with AVmailgate.

Same thing here on 5.6U4. Interestingly Mozilla mail labeled them "spam" and unceremoneously dumped all but two of them in my trashcan based on my ruleset. :-)

Just say "NO" to Outlook.

AvMailGate does not check for "spam" or other system vulnerabilities it only scans for known a 'virus'.

There are only 2 virus tests at http://www.gfi.com/emailsecuritytest/ the remaining tests are for system vulnerabilities. If AvMailGate caught the 2 virys tests, then it is doing its job.

You need a seperate program for spam filtering and a fire wall for system vulnerabilities.

MadPat,

I ran the tests to and noticed that on clients that ran some type of AV software the results were much lower than those running no AV software, so you might want to look at either running AV software or updating AV software on your clients.
