I've connected a HP720C windows printer on my e-smith box and shared it with samba with win98se stations.
Only the printing is very sloooow.... slow.. sometimes aprx. 10 mins. for a simple a4.
Any idea?

Is that a real WinPrinter ?? And it works with Linux ??
Have you tried to connect the printer to one of the WinBoxes
and share it on the net to see if this works faster ??

Yes it is a winprinter hp720c and connected to a windows box is faster. Any suggestions?

What about the bidirectional settings of your ports (it always give some trouble)

OK - first things first a "winprinter" is unfortunately optimized to utilise the operating system and resources of a window$ PC....
SO it would appear that any thing you do will not improve the performance of this printer - samba emulates a windows pc NOT becomes one.....
?my advice? leave the winprinter on a windows box and shaere it on the network that way, failing that if your budget will stretch to it obtain a true "hardware" printer and fasten that to the E-SMITH
Hope this helps

I found this link on the SuSE support database
http://sourceforge.net/project/?group_id=1322
it is about gdi-printers and there is also rh7-rpm available,
maybe this solves your problem.

I've browse the site and found some interesting HOW-TO information on:
http://pnm2ppa.sourceforge.net/PPA_networking/PPA_networking.html
It explains how to configure a HP PPA printer on a Samba machine..
Thanks, and when it works i'll let you know.

Only, I couldn't find the rh7-rpm. Or will the rpm also work for redhat 7?

For Version 1.04 I found only a rh 7.1 rpm, try the one below
ftp://speakeasy.rpmfind.net/Linux/redhat/7.0/en/os/i386/RedHat/RPMS//pnm2ppa-1.0-3i386.rpm
