Title: apcupsd with Smart-UPS 700
Post by: Jim on July 03, 2003, 07:12:57 AM
I'm trying to get apcupsd to work with a APC Smart-UPS 700. (serial)

It seems to be connected because it says online when I go to the status page.  It is configured with

UPSCABLE: simple
UPSTYPE: backups

But it doesn't show the load, battery, charge, or anything else.  The only thing it says is online.  I unpluged the UPS so that it would switch to battery, and I don't see anything that changes.

Is there a setting that I need to change?

I finally figured out after checking and changing all of the settings that the serial port had defaulted to /dev/ttyS1 instead of /dev/ttyS0

After changing to /dev/ttyS0, everything works great!

Hopefully this will help anyone else who has the same problem at first.

Hi,

Are you using Darrell May's Add-on panel for this?

If not you can download it over at http://contribs.org, great package making life so much easy.

Big thanks to Darrell on this.

Hi Jim,

If you have a Smart-UPS 700, why are you configuring apcupsd with a simple cable and a backups as UPS type ?

If you have the original cable that came with the Smart-UPS 700, you should configure apcupsd to use a smart cable and Smart-UPS as UPS type.

I did use the smart cable and smartups configuration after I found the /ttys serial problem.
