Title: XP clients have domain problem after upgrade from 5.1.2 to 5

I upgraded a 5.1.2 PDC server to 5.6.  The upgrade went well except that all the clients (8 XP Pro boxes) could no longer authenticate against the PDC.  Only users with a cached copy could log on.  In computer management, SME accounts in XP groups appeared as numbers...just like when a computer can't see a domain controller.  I think the upgrade to 5.6 changed the "sid" or something significant.  If you have a PDC running with XP clients, do some testing first.  

Anyone else experience problems like this?  I really need to understand this.

did you install the xp reg file that comes with 5.6 on each of the clients? I have found that it is needed if you are using 5.6 as PDC

Rick,

I did not install the reg fix as it was done manually on each machine to join them to the 512 PDC about a year ago.  Does the current reg fix do additional things needed for a 56 PDC for XP systems that are currently using a samba PDC?

I never needed to add the fix when I was using 5.12, but found it was required under 5.6

Thanks for replying, So not having the xp reg patch applied (only the win2k reg fix was done for SME512) and upgrading from SME 512 to SME 56 will cause XP to not allow domain logins and make all domain accounts be "unknown" in user and group management?  

I had to re-add all XP systems to the domain again.  Will applying the patch after XP is in the SME56 domain cause problems?

Does the xp reg patch turn off roaming proflies in XPsp1?
