Title: install Tomcat on e-smith server

I would like to install Tomcat on my e-smith server so I can use it as an app server.  Does anyone know the correct approach to do this.  I would like to install the following product, which requires Tomcat:
www.liferay.com
How can I get this app (Tomcat/Liferay) to run over ssl with and continue to use my ibays?

PS - I am a newbee to Linux and e-smith.
