Title: SME 5.6 as a front end to exchange.

SME 5.6 as a front end to exchange.

I no this is a bit of a strange set up but here is what I am trying to do. We have a real problem with spam email. We have an exchange server handling all our email. I am currently using an SME server as web server. Windows 2000 handles all internal network stuff. There is a firewall in front off all of this stuff forwarding all email ports to the windows server.

What I want to do if pass the email through spam assassin on SME before it get’s sent to the exchange server. My idea is to create mirror accounts on the sme server and set them to forward to the email address on the exchange server. So when you sent email to david@mybusiness.com the sme would get it then it would pass through spam assassin then be forwarded to the exchange server.

First try: What I was going to try first was just create mirror accounts on SME and in the forward email section put the ip of the exchange serve. Wouldn’t that be cool? Well it won’t accept an ip address.

Do any of you know of a way I can do this? Will spam assassin even look at mail being forwarded. If I forward to a different email address than on SME will it find the exchange server or just go back to the internet and go back to the sme.

P.S( I would rather just use sme if I can instead of buying spam software for windows. So don’t bother posting telling me to do that)
