Post by: guestHH on July 24, 2003, 06:42:09 PM
Anybody using a brouktrout faxboard (Trufax 200 PCI) on SME 5.X  ?

Like to know if there are any pitfalls ;-)

Regards,

You might be treading into dangerous waters here. There doesn't appear to be any support for Linux on their website and the card doesn't appear to behave like a normal fax/modem. I just bought a Perle pci-ras 4 port modem card to be used under Hylafax for US$100 and it goes like a dream. Might be better to look for a multi-modem card or digi 4/8 port serial card rather than this one. It may save you a lot of heartache. Just my AUD$0.02 worth :-)

Thanks LIoyd,

I too came to the conclusion _not_ to use the brooktrout card.

Reading through the hylafax mailarchives and after intesive googling it all had "dont do that!" written all over it ;-)

ps. Do you have link to the Perle product?

Thanks.

Here's the link http://www.perle.com/products/prod_family/modem_cards/pci_ras.html but they are pricey brand new, better off checking out ebay (That's where I got mine) The other option is a multi-port serial card with standard modems hanging off it. BTW the pci-ras didn't need any config at all, there is full support for the card under the 2.4 kernel. I had to tweak the ports a bit using setserial but that was trivial. I also grabbed a digi Xr 920 4 port serial card out here in Oz which I'm going to start testing.
