well, back from the dead anyway...
I had an HDD failure, of the mechanical "thunk"ing kind, and after several fscks, it's back running, but with a partial lobotomy..
SMTP and fetchmail don't seem to work at all !
I get lots of the following errors in the mail log:
Aug 6 01:34:03 feynman procmail[7064]: Insufficient privileges to deliver to "ian"
Aug 6 01:34:03 feynman fetchmail[6935]: MDA returned nonzero status 19712
and:
svscan - unable to stat smtpfront-qmail file does not exist
(and it doesn't!)
I also get the Per Locale error message..
The simple question, is it worth trying to fix this, then migrate across, or should I cut my losses, and re-install on the new hardware?

I don't think I'd ever trust it again.

Hi With the cost of hardware and the time and cost it will take for you to put all your data back it would not make good business sence to attempt to fix it. Change it!

Install on new hardware.
Mount it as a second/third drive and try to extract anything worthwhile.
Throw it away.....
