Title: Spam Issue
Post by: ChanChong on August 11, 2003, 11:08:00 PM
Hi everyone,

I have a problem that seems to get bigger and bigger. Is there anyway that I can stop this 2 things

1) Spam
2) Bounce mails that ended in my server

Please help and enlighten me. I believe many other people there are asking the same questions.

The mail queue just get bigger n bigger.

Also, I am using both sme 5.5 and 5.6.

Spam Assassin has been installed on a 5.5 box after it got hit quite badly.

Went to check for relay. All passed except this one.

Relay test 9
>>> RSET
<<< 250 OK
>>> MAIL FROM:
<<< 250 Sender accepted.
>>> RCPT TO:<"relaytest%abuse.net">
<<< 250 Recipient accepted.

Perhaps someone can really help. I am not well verse in linux. Thanks.

You can't really "stop" spam. It's someone else doing something to you, so it won't end until that person stops. SpamAssassin is about the best tool I've found for making it so you don't have to deal with spam though.

I belive that test is a false positive. Some mail servers will say that they accept the mail from the sender, then filter it out later. I believe that's the case on this type. In other words, it's not actually a problem with your server, their test just isn't 100% accurate.

And if the false positive bothers you, upgrade to 5.6 or 6.0beta.
