Cannot seem to create a new group although I already have several created when I try to create one recently it just brings me to a blank page. If I look at all the groups, I don't see the one that I just tried to create. Any ideas?

How many groups have you already created? There is a defacto limit of 28 groups on a SME server.

I have 23 groups so far, this would have been the 24th.

Ed,
I discovered exactly the same here on our own server some days ago. This server has been upgraded from SME 5.5 (and older before) and there was no problem with group creation on 5.5.
I suspect the problem to be in the web interface because the group creation through Michiel's command line tool "lat" (Thanks!) actually worked quite well.

Michael

How do you do it from the command line? Is there any actual fix available? Thanks

Thanks ... that tool works great. Can I exceed the 28 group limit by using this tool? again thanks ...

The 28-groups limit is caused by the fact that SME adds users 'admin' and 'www' to each group it creates. If you use the --no-admin switch with lat-groups, the group will be created without those users, effectively allowing you to create more than 28 groups.
Please note, however, that SME is very persistent with this 'feature'. Each time you use the server-manager to modify a group, 'admin' and 'www' will be added to all groups again. So if you add more than 28 groups to your server, you better no longer use the 'groups' option in the server-manager.
Use it at your own risk! I've warned you...
