I have installed arkeia light v5 on sme 5.5 (installed rpm without dependencies for X11). Set up tapes pools etc to run a backup job (using the java gui on a windows client), however when launching an interactive backup it states that "SME is a type 1 machine, you are limited to 0 standard machines, cannot start backup".
My understanding was that on linux it would allow you to back up the server and also some type 2 clients (NT etc). I am testing this to a null device at the moment (as specified in the manual), as dont have a scsi tape drive to attach.
Anyone else running arkeia v5 light successfully?
Regards,
Tim.

As a full version Arkeia user I have also had problems with the system typing. Contact Arkeia support and they'll help you out.

Unfortunately they state they dont provide any support for the light version. Thats why I was hoping someone here might have an answer.
Thanks Anyhow.
Tim.

Hmm.. they used to. you could always download the full version as a trial and get the support you need ;)
let me look thru my stuff and see if I can find the answer I got to fix the problem.

Emailed you some info..

Thanks Steve,
The problem is now resolved. Had to specify the fully qualified domain name, rather than just the short host name when defining a savepack. Appears it sees the short hostname as another box otherwise - hence breaking the licence!
Cheers,
Tim.

What server name did you use for the Win Java Client ?
Have tried the IP address of my SME box (which worked in the Linux
X Win Client) but that failed - any clues ?
Thanks !

Is it possible to use Arkeia Light as provided by the RPM to make diskbackups?
I dont have a tape drive unfortunately

i think you need to use the FQDN.

I don't think arkeia light will backup to files. I'll check on that.
-
No, Arkeia Light will not backup to filedrives. Use of filedrives requires the library module, which is unavailable in arklight. You need the full version to do backups to file.
You can have them quote you on the basic pro version, which isn't too expensive, or just run out and buy a cheapo tape drive.
