We have an E-Smith server currently on trial and so far I have been very impressed with the easy setup and its overall features. However I have a small problem with virtual domains. I have set up the server using our local domain and added a virtual domain for our external domain. This handles mail to our exchange server. We also have a Web site hosted at our ISP which we like to be able to view from the office, now when we attempt to go the web site we only get the E-Smith default page.
I have tried adding in the host name and address into the hosts table and when I use nslookup on a workstation it resolves to the correct ip address, but we still get the page on the e-smith server.
How do we get E-Smith to not act as the web server for our virtual domain i.e. www.transcendit.co.uk ?

You have to create a new I-bay
example:
webpage
and then goto modify your virtual domain, there you will see an option for content. That's where you pick the "webpage" i-bay as the content. If you don't have any I-bay's created, it will only offer "Primary web site", which is what it defaults to.
the directory where u can change the content for your i-bays is "/home/e-smith/files/ibays/"
hope this helps
good luck

Unfortunately I dont think this is the answer. Maybe this will explain it better .
We have an E-Smith server setup with our local domain transcendit.local and have set up a virtual domain transcendit.co.uk. This allows us to receive mail for the domain and all seems ok. However when our users try to go to our web site www.transcendit.co.uk E-smith serves up whatever I-Bay has been designated for the virtual domain.
What we would like is that when the users attempt to go to www.transcendit.co.uk through the E-Smith server then they get to the web site at our ISP not the local I-Bay. Is there a way to tell E-Smith not to function as a web server for the virtual domain. I have tried to remove www from the hosts list but it keeps on coming back. I have also added in the correct IP address for www.transcendit.co.uk but it still uses the I-Bay.
Thanks in Advance

Hmm..
i think that's just the way e-smith works. Maybe there might something with the ports in some config file where for example requests for port 80 would be sent to actual website instead of the ibay and the requests for the mail port would be accepted by the e-smith server. Maybe try making e-smith use a proxy that points to the actual site on port 80. Sorry I wasn't much help.

You added the hostname "manually" on the e-smith server ??
I have more or less the same configuration. I just added (using the e-smith manager) "www.mydomain.net" as hostname and the real-world IP
as IP Address.
So when I browse to www.mydomain.local I get my e-smith page and
when browsing to www.mydomain.net I get my Internet page.
Btw. I'm using Version 4.1.2

Do you also have this domain set as a virtual domain ?

I think I have already tried this but I will give it another go.
Thanks for the help

Stanger and Stranger.......
Well after putting in the host record and trying it I still got the E-Smith box rather than my external host. With IE, even after telling it to not use the proxy it still gets the E-Smith box, however with Netscape set to not use the proxy it bypasses the local site and goes to the correct site. Again if it is set to use the proxy it get the E-Smith box.
Nslookup on the E-smith box reports the correct IP address for the www.transcendit.co.uk host.
Oh well.
Anyone have any other ideas ?

If you set up a link on your internal home page and direct it to your hosted domain IP address ie xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx.
I think you problem will be resolved.

Unfortunately this will not work as our isp uses virtual hosts and therefore going to the ip address does not give you our web site.
