For a user to have access to sftp, they must first have access to ssh.

A question for those more knowledgeable :
Is it possible to allow ssh access for sftp purposes without actually allowing people to have a *shell*? I mean, so they couldn't get in and do anything other than sftp stuff on the server.

Guck,
That is exactly may question! I don“t want to bring a console access to the users, just only a secure ftp access to an specific html subdirectory of an e-bay to work on a web site project. Could somebody give us an advice?

What's wrong with that user accessing via VPN.
Setup the user group access rights to only have access to that ibay and they won't be able to see/get at anything else.
