Title: USR External Modem Refuses to Dial IPS
Post by: Steve Smith on June 07, 2001, 12:55:28 AM
I seem to be having problems setting up my USR External modem. My e-smith server is configured to use Com 2 (/dev/ttys1), ISP phone number, ppp account, and password etc. are correct,  I have set the connection times to long and after rebooting e-smith a few of the lights on the modem flash but it refuses to dial. When I test internet connection it always fails. Have I missed something or is there a problem with my modem. Both cable and modem are new right our of the box.

Try to check if your cable and modem works in other computer using Windows. If it works, maybe its a problem with the serial port on your e-smith box. Are you sure that the port is COM2? Why don't you try on COM1? If you need COM1, interchange the devices conectes to the ports.

Thanks Alejandro, Problem solved! It was infact the motherboard I was using. It is an older board P133. The problem disappeared when I installed a new board. It now works great!
