I searched the forums and in some local files found with "locate ntp", but I could not determine how often SME5.6U5 contacts a ntp server. The reason I ask is that I don't want to abuse a public ntp server by hitting it too much. I did notice the following in the ntp doc ntpd.htm file
"Ordinarily, and in most operating environments, the state machine
will start with 64s intervals and eventually increase in steps to
1024s." Is this the way SME is configured? If so, is this generally considered acceptable to admins running public ntp servers? Thanks in advance for your insight.
Thanks,
Dale

my SME cpntacts the ntp-server ervery time the IP-adress changes.
when i enabled the ntp in server-manager, the ntpd was inserted into the ip-change event.
but you can check the /var/log/messages for ntp-trafic.
cheers klaus
