Therefore my questiion is: Is it to hard to add Sound & windows (XFree86) to esmith 6.0b3 (or older)
Any links and suggestions are appreciated.

It kind of defeats the purpose of the server.
Wouldn’t you be better of with any regular Linux distribution to use it as workstation and server?

it is not a good idea to add sound and a grafical user interface (X-windows) to a server.
a server has to do its work, say: serve file, do the routing, manage the printers,  and so on.
if you "steal" it too much power with such "knick-knack", it can not to its work...

cheers klaus

Give Mandrake a try or even the latest Suse.
