Title: Anyone used an SMC1244 NIC in 5.6?
Post by: Peter on October 10, 2003, 09:12:41 PM
I am tempted to try an SMC1244 NIC, has anyone tried one in a 5.6 box?

Cheers,

Peter.

Throw it in & see.  I think it's covered by the via-rhine driver.

I was using older 10mb SMC pci nics (not 1244) with my linux servers.  I was randomly having SME and IPCop crash with kernel panics.  I found using an these older SMC nic card and IPSEC vpn tunnels where related to the kernal panics.  Neither IPCop nor SME have crashed since replacing SMC nics with 3com or intel cards.

Newer SMC nics that are 10/100 may not experience these problems.

Good Luck,

RS
