Title: Gallery 1.4 / 6.0b3 Install Success - Sorta of...
Post by: Jim Danvers on October 23, 2003, 08:45:18 AM
I have it running (finally.. wasn't a walk in the park for some reason like it was before on 5.6) referencing Dan Browns how-to (that thing is great!).  I'm stuck though in that I can't login to the thing!!  Arghhh...

I finally got past the config stuff... secured it, clicked on the link to "go to gallery" (or whatever it says after saving config ) and then when I go to login using 'admin' and the password I keyed in back at the cfg - no joy.  ;(

Any ideas anyone??  I'm getting blurry eyed and must get some sleep.....

you need to login using exactly URL you typed in the config
not http://myserver/gallery, but http://www.mydomain.com/gallery for example.

Finger-trouble? :-) Or something that might need to be shared? I see your Gallery 1.3.1 is online... So is your g1.4 still under wraps over on a SME 6.0b3?

Vested interest... I have Gallery 1.4-pl2 running on SME 5.6u4 - awaiting SME 6's clearance to the great unwashed public.

best wishes, Robert

lol!!  Note that I didn't ~explicitly~ say that I had (have) ~1.4 ~ running....  lol!!  I just said that I have 'it' running.  I still suck with linux...  I still have ~soooo~ much to learn.  I couldn't get it going, so I just decided to call it 4th down and long - punt.  ( oh... you in UK?  I'm talking american football, uh.... ~our~ version of football...  lol!!  Anyway - hopefully you get the drift!  )  I just followed Dan Brown's really good how-to for that specific version and it works fine (on 6.0b3 also).

Maybe if/when you get the latest & greatest ( 1.4 ) of it running on 6.0 you could put something together and share it w/the rest of us?  ;)  ;)

Yes, I just about get the drift:~) Here in the UK we have a minority TV channel (C5) that airs a late night US football thing that I've half-watched occasionally, though I'm still not much the wiser.

I believe Gallery is about to push 1.4.1 out into the open. My own online gallery is running with g1.4-pl2 on a SME 5.6u4 server/gateway. When Mitel move their v6 from beta to unsupported I will update soon enough.

There is also an experimental edition, Gallery 2, and this is available in pre-alpha form. I put g2 up on my primary server just to see how the future of Gallery lay. Seems to be template-driven but otherwise it's way too soon to tell. I wasn't using the CVS stuff so I just downloaded the pre-compiled edition that is referenced in the advice area. No particular glitches during the installation, I just followed the instructions in the readme to the letter.

best wishes, Robert
