Title: Force ISP dns query for some subdomains
Post by: Andre Courchesne on October 24, 2003, 05:40:05 PM
Hi,

  Ok here is my setup.

  I have an e-smith (5.5) as domain name net-forces.com.

I have some external customer boxes that are regietered on the internet through Zoneedit as sub-domaine (i.e. aaa.net-forces.com, bbb.net-forces.com).

Name resolution works great while outside on the network. i.e. Some a friend hount I can ping net-forces.com, aaa.net-forces.com and bbb.net-forces.com and I get the individual IP of each locations.

However if I'm inside my network going through the net-forces.com e-smith, if I ping aaa.net-forces.com and bbb.net-forces.com the resolution always give me the IP fo net-forces.com.

Anyway to get that to resolve to the individual sub-domains?

  Thanks,

Add the hostname aaa in the SME server manager. Point it at the IP address of your external customer box.

repeat.

Hi Guck,

The problem is that the IPs are dynamic... Unless I write some script code that will have the remote station send me it';s new IP and then my server to configure the hostname with the new information, I don't see a way...
