I upgraded the hardware on my SME6.0b3+updates server. I performed a backup to desktop, then I installed SME6.0b3+updates on the new server and performed a restore from desktop.
The restore completed successfully, but now I have a problem.
The server-manager screen won't accept the admin password.
I can login as root with putty and browse the samba shares as admin. I receive a login prompt from the browser, but it won't accept the password.
Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this.
Thanks for your help.

Hi steve,
not realy a fix, but as a workaround it may work:
If you are logged in with putty you could use lynx to access
the servermanager and set(overwrite) the password with something - then change it back to the one you want.

Thanks for the suggestions.
Unfortunately the server-manager in Lynx requires an admin password that isn't accepted either.

you could boot into single usermode and change from there or from just go into another console type init1 and change from there remember to change back tho
Hope this helps

Hit CTL-X when the SME graphic comes up at boot-time. This puts you into lilo text input mode.
Then you type:
Mitel-SME-up single
This boots SME into single user mode as root without a password..
Now type
passwd admin
Reboot the machine and you should be able to log on to the server-manager. There you change the system password again so it gets updated in all corners of the system and you should be OK.
Let us know if it worked.

Thank you for the suggestion. I'll give this a try tonight.
I am able to login to the console as root and I tried to use passwd to reset the admin account, but server-manager doesn't come up.

For the umpteenth time - report all beta issues (only) to smebugs@e-smith.com.
Charlie
P.S. Or would you all rather I spent my time, instead of fixing bugs, either:
- ignoring these posts so that bugs never get found and fixed
- scouring these boards for hints of problems, in case there is a bug
?
I know I do the latter somewhat, but I very much want to stop. Is it so much to ask? Find bug -> report bug. Simple.

Bug report submitted.
Thanks

Michiel, your advice is typically excellent, but I have a problem with one corner of your suggestion -- changing the master password in the SME6 server-manager.
I think I must have missed something, because the password used to be listed under "security" in prior versions, now the only time you ever see it is during the installation of vers 6 -- there's nothing in the console or server-manager that I can find to change it after that. .
Am I going blind, or is this a new policy? Is there any way to change the password after installation?
Regards,
Tom

You can change the admin password in the users pannel. That's at the very top of the very first option of the server-manager :-)

Thanks Michiel -- missed it completely!
