Title: e-smith-dialin
Post by: Bruce on November 19, 2003, 01:57:46 AM
Does the e-smith-dialin package make any attempt to put a modem in answer mode when dial-in is enabled over a serial port?  I can't see anything in the package that would do this but I suppose I may have missed something.

Hi Bruce,

Any sensible system doesn't put the modem into autoanswer even for dial in systems. It should monitor the serial port for RING singnals and then tell the modem to answer. This ensures that the only calls that are answered are ones that the machine is ready to take and deal with.

Cheers
Dave.

Of course.  That  makes a lot of sense.  I've just never set up a dial-in server before.

I use this a bit and it works well. when you turn it on in console. It puts the modem into auto answer. THe callback function does not work for me but everyting else is fine.
