Title: Web server problem
Post by: Raffi on November 26, 2003, 10:27:09 PM
Hello,

I have set up an e-smith server behind a Sonicwall firewall on an ADSL line. The server is patched with all the updates. All the necessary ports are being forewarded by the Sonicwall to the WAN side IP of the e-smith server. Everything seems to be working well except for the web server. When I try the web site it gives me a site not found or connection refused error. This is the case both from outside (internet) and  from within the network (through VPN). I can get to the web site from within the network (VPN) by using the server's LAN side IP address. But the domain name gives a site not found or connection refused error. The domain name does resolve to the server's LAN IP address. I verified this with both nslookup and host. I also tried to reload the BIND zone files (rndc reload) and dumped the cache (rndc dump), and I even restarted the server altogether without any luck. There are no virtual domains or i-bays set up. The primary DNS in the server configuration menu is blank as suggested by the e-smith documentation. At this point I'm running out of ideas and any help will be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks,

Raffi

Hello again folks,

I have resolved the web access problem. It turns out it was a configuration issue with Sonicwall. Apparently although Sonicwall was configured to forward port 80 to the server, there was a filter rule set up to allow port 80 connections from WAN to the Sonicwall only. So the packets were being dropped. Deleteing the old filter rule and adding a new one to allow port 80 connections from WAN to the e-smith server IP address on the LAN side, and restarting Sonicwall fixed it.
