I am interested in allowing my users to send email via smtp from outside the network. These are roaming users so doing stuff with ip addresses is not going to work. I did a search of the archives and found a referece to e-smith-cvm at http://www.pagefault.org/code/e-smith.shtml#securemail
I am just doing a little digging for information and I was hoping someone else had tackled this recently and might give me some advice. I am on SME ver 5.6, and I need this to work with outlook and outlook express.
So basically my questions are:
1. will this break webmail and/or imap?
2. will this work with outlook/outlook express
3. does outlook express support plain auth or ssl? or whats the deal with this?
4. anything else I need to know about this procedure?
Let me just state outright that the check mail as auth work around is not going to work for me, and yes I have webmail enabled but that is not sufficient for my purposes either. These users move around a lot and do not understand how to change their smtp server, etc.
Thanks in advance for any advice,
Max

No.

Yes.

OE will support both.

You will probably have to --force install some of the 5.6 packages. It's nearly 6 months since I installed the packages you're referring to and my memory is dim. However, it's working flawlessly on the 5.6 box here.

I would like to know if anyone has this working on vers 6
or if an upgrade from 5.5 to 6 will allow this to continue to work. I have it working on 5.5 and 5.6 but wish to upgrade to 6 now it is out... anythoughts?
Mark.
