E-Smith on a 64k ISDN line.
After fresh installation seems to make a connection through ISDN every 5 minutes,
even when there seems to be no activity on my internal network.
Does e-smith automaticly make a connection to internet and if so where can i set the interval. Or even better can i set it to make connection only on demand from my internal network.
I only want to use it as a gateway and proxy. for now that is ;-).

I've been having a similar problem, but with a normal V.90 line -- i can't seem to make it wait for a dial tone before it tries to dial. I looked up the command in my modem book, and the command they say to put in the modem initialization string is just a 'W', so i tried to add that to the phone number, but e-smith-manager told me that was an invalid phone number. My server was dialing so much I finally had to unplug it until I can find out how to make it wait for a dial tone.
Any ideas?

What are your connection policies?

What email retrieval mode are you using?

Yes, e-smith will automatically establish connections to the internet for outbound (allowed) tcp/ip traffic from the e-smith server or local network.
Are you running a ntp time server on your network? (Note that the e-smith server has the ability to be a time server client itself.)
You can determine if the outbound traffic is being generated by one of your workstations or the e-smith server by disconnecting the lan.
