Okay, I have been trying to deal with the BS that I am experiencing with SquidGuard. It is not a smooth integration with SME 5.6U4 UDR to say the least - at least not for me.
I cannot access the administration panel at all. I was able to at one time, but it is extremely flakey and very unreliable. It has something to do with FormMagic or something. Here is what I see in my log admin_error_log:
[Fri Dec 19 09:16:46 2003] [error] [client 127.0.0.1] File does not exist: /etc/e-smith/web/panels/manager/html/squidguard
I know it exists because I can see the @squidguard file in the cgibin directory and the permissions are the same as any other panel.
I cannot access the web panel from a computer on the local network or through a tunnel using putty and ssh.
Another problem I am having is the cronjob is telling me that it cannot update the blacklist every night. I have the latest ftp information updated but it still produces error in the cron log.
Anyone have any suggestions what I need to do before I just comepletely blow this POS away?
Thanks!

Okay, here is some information to my problem. When trying to access the server-manager via https://192.168.1.1/e-smith-manager or https://192.168.1.1/server-manager I get this page:
The requested URL could not be retrieved
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
While trying to retrieve the URL: http.carrollweb.net:443
The following error was encountered:
Unable to determine IP address from host name for http.carrollweb.net
The dnsserver returned:
Name Error: The domain name does not exist.
This means that:
The cache was not able to resolve the hostname presented in the URL.
Check if the address is correct.
Your cache administrator is xxxx@carrollweb.net.

Notice that it is resolving the host name to http.carrollweb.net. It should not be this should it?
I know squid guard is working because I can view the log and see the entries. However, when I get to the last entry (when I tried to access the server-manager) I have this:
1071900152.322 2 192.168.1.73 TCP_MISS/404 0 CONNECT 192.168.1.1:443 - DIRECT/ - -
This is so confusing that no one else is having this problem. It did nothing other than follow the how-to and installed the package like it showed from the contribs section.

Tom,
Which package of Squidguard are you trying to install?
-
Tom and Lloyd,
I have installed squidguard from: http://www.tech-geeks.org/servers/sme/squidGuard/
The install seems to go fine and I did reboot, but when I run the supdate script, this is what I get:
[root@sme60final var]# /usr/local/squidGuard/supdate
SquidGuard Filter Interface 3.0

Stopping squid: /etc/rc.d/init.d/squid: line 2: 4267 Aborted $SQUID -k check >/dev/null 2>&1

Then I do a service squid status and this is what I get:
[root@sme60final var]# service squid status
squid dead but subsys locked
FATAL: Bungled squid.conf line 44: cache_dir ufs /var/spool/squid 16 256
Squid Cache (Version 2.4.STABLE6): Terminated abnormally.

/etc/init.d/squid: line -161: 4302 Aborted $SQUID -k check
[root@sme60final var]#
This doesn't look normal? How do I know if squidguard is running and doing what it's supposed to do? I really don't think it is? Is there a way to see what is already in the blacklist file?
Thanks,
John Bennett

Never Mind for my issue. I re-loaded on a fresh box and It appears to be working fine. I have been testing other contibs and it seems I had a conflict.

JB - Can you share with us what that conflict was? I am still having my problems and I am curious as to what contrib was conflicting with it.
Thanks!

I had this rpm installed, e-smith-squid-restrict-ip-0.1-1.noarch.rpm, from this site, http://vanhees.homeip.net/modules.php?op=modload&name=Downloads&file=index&req=viewdownloaddetails&lid=136&ttitle=e-smith-squid-restrict-ip-0.1-1.noarch.rpm. The squidguard rpm includes this function as well. So, I reloaded my test server and only installed the squidguard rpm and it now functions properly. I also loaded the SARG rpm and it works as well.
I have been testing a lot of RPM's on my test box, but don't believe I had anything else loaded except the above mentioned rpm's, when I was failing.

I am glad to know what it was causing your problem. However, are you able to access the squidguard panel within the server-manager?
I installed SquidGuard on my server (SME 5.6 Update 4).
I then tried to access my server-manager and was told it could not access https.carrollweb.net. But I typed in the address as https://192.168.1.1/server-manager.
Is this working for you, or are you doing something different?
Thanks!

I have installed Squidguard 3.0 from Trevor Ouellette.
-
Tom,
I installed squidguard from http://www.tech-geeks.org/servers/sme/squidGuard/. Just download the tar.gz and the readme.txt file and follow the instructions.
Yes, I can access the server-manager screen that has a panel for squidguard as well.

On sme6.01, I installed suiqguard3.2.tar (3477kb), and it all installs well and I get the server-manager panel.
BUT what do I do from there?
I tried putting up a 'restrict IP' but it didnt seem to restrict (casino.com).
are there any docs somewhere?
