Hello,
I have used the e-smith manger under the Hostnames and Addresses and changed the ftp entry to another server on my local network. I have not had a chance to test this from the internet and will do this on Monday when I get back to work.
But my question is does this just reroute from the external NIC? Because when I ftp my e-smith server locally it does not reroute to my other ftp?
TIA miked

Don't expect it to work. The hostnames and address panel will configure your local DNS to poing the hostname "ftp" to the IP you specify. External resolution of ftp.yourdomain.com will not change.

See above. If you want incoming ftp connections forwarded to another server, you want to 'port-forward' the appropriate port(s).
See http://netsourced.com/e-smith/docs/ipportfw-howto.html for more details on port-forwarding.

It doesn't reroute -- the e-smith DNS server just tells your ftp client what IP is associated with the hostname "ftp". This should have worked for you. Did you set the hostname "ftp" or "ftp.yourdomain.com"?

YOU ARE RIGHT FTP TO ESMITH NO WORRIES BUT NOT INTERNAL PC

FTP IP (INTERNAL OR EXTERNAL) GOES TO ESMITH
FTP (FOR ME THIS ONLY WORKS INTERNAL AS i DO NOT HAVE A DOMAIN NAME) FTP.DOMAIN NAME.COM AND IT REROUTES TO OTHER FTP SERVER. SO I GUESS IF I HAVE A DOMAIN NAME THIS WOULD WORK?

ONLY WITH DOMAIN NAME NOT IP
It doesn't reroute -- the e-smith DNS server just tells your ftp client what IP is associated with the hostname "ftp". This should have worked for you. Did you set the hostname "ftp" or "ftp.yourdomain.com"?
Thanks for your help
