When I run the "configure this server" item in the console there is no opportunity
to specify dynamic dns like there used to be. Does anyone know what happened
to it? Is there a step-by-step procedure anywhere for ver 6 that deals with this?
Thanks.

Hello
I just setup a old 233 yesterday with the latest version 6.0
couple of weeks old anyway and it was there
It has 2 nics and I set it as server/gateway mode
in sever only mode you don't see the dyndns setup screen
hope this clears it up for you

How much memory did you have in that 233 box?
Thanks,

Are you sure you have ver 6 final? I think release candidate 2 did not have the DynDNS but was fixed in candidate 3 and is in final.

Hello
I have just checked on the version I am using and
it was downloaded
Thursday, December 18 2003 at 11:23:00 AM
file size
334.2 MB
from
http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/e-smith/current/iso/
this is all of the info I have
hope it helps dyndns setup screens only show if you are using sme in a gateway-server mode they do not show the dyndns in server only mode
I would like to see that though as I run my server-only needing the dyndns
I use an external windows program to do my dns updating it was cheap and very easy to use

I do not understand how you can use a separate Windows box
to keep the DynDNS up-to-date on a Linux server. How does the
Windows program monitor this?
Thanks.

Hello
I don't use the sme box as a gateway - it is a server only I use coyotelinux for the firewall it only takes a box that can boot a floppy no hard drive needed and then I use a windows box as a desktop for my windows programs which has the updater on it
The cable isp - dynamic ip is routed thru the firewall box using port forwarding to my servers and the windows box checks the dynamic ip as I have set it and updates zoneedit as needed
A lot of boxes but the firewall only has one purpose keep people out the sme is my main server great piece of software the windows box is mainly for windows office apps and the like
hope this clears it up
