Title: copying files get's server down!!

i installed sme server 6 and everything is working, but when i try to copy a file bigger than 5 megabytes to an i-bay, either by ftp or by samba, the server hangs and i cant even login fisically at the server.i searched the forums but i can't find anything related to this and i don't know what to do.Any help would be greatly apreciated

maybe a broken harddisk. Check your hdd.

the harddisk is fine it was working fine at my stepfather computer with win98, but i'll run a check just to be sure thanx

The harddisk doesn't have a problem, please somebody help i don't know what to do!

Try running memtest86 on it, just to check the RAM, you would be suprised how many things can stuff up because of Bad RAM.

Also, try resetting the Bios, not defaults, like clear the bios.
See if that helps as well. I've had a few problems where I've had to do that.

It may happen that the HD is working fine if working without DMA (PIO 4 or whatever)

So test with
hdparm /dev/hd{a|b|c}
to see what settings are in effect also se man hdparm or hdparm --help

also 40 vs 80 wire cables may help

also just a blown hard drive may have the same symptoms - the win89 definitely is not working in dma so ...

check if your HD requires a "Master only" jumper.

some drives not only use jumpers to set master/slave, but also require an aditional jumper be placed when its the only HD on the IDE bus.
