I have 3.1 installed on a P200 box (running side by side with a PII 266 dual processor running NT SBS also acting as a gateway for another net - I prefer e-smith!).
I am upgrading to e-smith 4.0.
I would like to see the following features:
1) User level control over access to the Internet (i.e. I want them to have access to the LAN resources, but not necessarily the 'net) - this is for a school.
2) Site level proxy control. E.g. I want to allow users access to the net but only to go to a predefined list of sites, including *.edu type specifications, through the proxy server (Squid).
Both of these would seem to require a new level of control over the IP Masquerading at the gateway. In the first case, denying outbound/inbound traffic to certain internal users. In the second case, forcing traffic through SQUID and through a filter to control access. MS Proxy provides this.
Are there RPMs that can be added to e-smith to accomplish this?
Thanks.

See ftp://ftp.e-smith.net/pub/e-smith/contrib/charlieb/.
The e-smith-transproxy RPM will force normal web traffic throught squid.
There is no cersorware add-on, but e-smith-sleezeball is an example of how to configure a URL filter into squid - sleezeball is configured to remove advertising banners in the example.
I hope this helps to point you in the right direction.
