And you are volunteering to answer all the frequently asked questions??

No, the search instructions will stay - at least some people will read them and pay attention to them.

Charlie,

I feel your pain, when I first started using the forum I didn't even notice the 'Search' hyperlink in the menu.

Here's a possible compromise (that uses much less screen area):

Have you SEARCHED the forums first? Someone might have answered your question(s) already....    New User Forum    Advanced Forum    Wish List    General discussion

That the combination of...

- using IE 5.0 having three toolbars at the top (menu, navigation buttons & URL address)
- video display set at 800x600 pixels (typical for 15 inch monitors)
- the new 'Have you searched the forums yet?' announcement

Leaves no room to display topics--not even one line?

No, but we do now...

We'll try to get it trimmed, but it is already having a noticeable
effect on people posting to the correct boards.

If you reduce your font size does that help? :)

Yep... a reduction from medium to smaller text (via the view menu) allows for 4 topics to be displayed.

Great, I'm glad the announcement is having the intended effect.  I know you guys spend I lot more time reading the postings than me and I sure get tired of seeing the same questions being asked (and I was one of the guilty--in my newbie days).

Hasan

P.S.

How about adding a link in the announcement back to the homepage?

I'm having some connection problems that appear to be generating extra posts.
