Title: e-smith as Gateway with DSL router
Post by: Mike Coan on July 01, 2001, 01:33:32 AM
We have a DSL internet connection through a Flowpoint router with 16 IP addresses.  I know I can use e-smith in server only mode.  Reading the documentation (pages 39 adn 40 of 4.1 manual) it seems pretty clear that if I furnish e-smith the static ip of the router and assign one of the other static ip's to the external nic of e-smith, then I should be ok.

Do I understand this correctly?

Thanks

You are exactly right.  This is how I have mine set up, except I've got a Paradyne DSL modem, and only one IP address assigned to me.

Works great, and was very easy to install.

Same with an Alcatel Pro ADSL modem and a dynamic IP from dynDNS. Works fine.

I have just installed an Alcatel Pro ADSL modem and are using DynDNS as the dynamic IP provider. The server is configured as a gateway and a file server. We use DHCP for internal IP name allocation in the default setting range. Previously we ran a cable modem and it worked fine. The ADSL modem was run up on a W98SE machine, then plugged into the server. The server was then re-configured for "DHCP sending the Ethernet address."

Access to the WWW is OK. Emails are OK.
My problem is that when I go to our Website, I get the 10.0.0.138 web page of the Alcatel Pro ADSL modem, which is actually the welcome.html file, not our index.html file. As there is a password on the modem, I get a login screen from it. The URL is however showing as correct for our Website in the address bar, but it is resolving to the modem...

I know this is a simple config problem, but I do not know where to look! What are the settings, and where do I modify them to correct this?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.
