Title: NTP server
Post by: Scott Smith on June 18, 2001, 06:15:21 PM
Could e-smith run an NTP server, and that server be available as a selection from the web manager's time panel?

Hi,

While E-smith currently only supports an NTP client for the servers time keeping needs, it's not too hard to set up e-smith with a net boot script which will provide (almost) the same client functionality (assuming their're Win boxes that get rebooted on a regular basis).

I'm not sure if this is suitable for your needs but it might provide a stop-gap measure at the very least. :)

Regards,
Luke

No, I was thinking more about making it simple for an e-smith server to keep its time set. There are NTP servers all over the place, but finding them is not trivial for the average non-technical target customer, and they also tend to come and go. If e-smith were to run an NTP server, then the configuration panel could have a simple checkbox for enable/disable NTP. Very much in keeping with the KISS model, I think.
