The title says it all.
I know a third-party FAQ exists to upgrade to Samba 2.2, but with so many Windows 2000 clients existing now, an official upgrade would be useful. :)

Samba 2.2 could be a blade made by someone like you as unrecommanded upgrade.
I don't think the e-smith developper are going to make a blade now since they didnt want to include directly samba 2.2 in SME v5 !
And the FAQ of Dan Brown is very very simple now we found where was the problem :)
See you

Is there a 'howto' for the blades?
I can see these for rpms in the developer section (http://www.e-smith.org/docs/howto/) but nothing on blades.

No, that isn't correct. We did want to include samba 2.2 in SME V5, but we did not have sufficient time and resources to adequately test the upgrade. We are making such a blade, and will release an unsupported version for beta testing when it is ready.

You mention a Samba 2.2.x Blade. Any ideas when the beta will be ready? and do you know if it will work with XP?
Also, as it's a Beta blade, will it appear in the Server's blades list? All our server has listed at the moment is Update v2 and the MP3 server blades.
Many thanks

I have been waiting sometime for this blade. I hope it is ready soon. I hope it does fix my problem in WIndows XP, as I have been Beta testing XP for a long time. Is it safe to download Samba from Samba.org and untar it? Is that all that is necessary? Otherwise, should I just wait for the blade?
For reference, the error I receive in XP is very annoying...quite frequently I get a message bubble stating that I have lost my network connection, immediately followed by a message that I am now connected to the network at 100MBs. The thing is, I haven't actually lost my connection when this happens.
Any idea if the Samba Blade/upgrade will fix that?
Thanks,
Derek

Derek,
I have now managed to upgrade Samba to work with XP. I have had no problems like you. Have you tried the full version of XP rather than a Beta Copy?
I used the How to from Dan Brown. There seem to be at least 3 from him. The 2 by him didn't work when I tried them, but there is another one started by him or taking ideas from him, that has been updated by other people that does work.
Unfortunately I can't remember the web address but I can scan in the pages and send them to you if you can't find them.
