Title: Standard Kernel, MAC Address Control

Hi all,

Here's my wish list.

1. Standard Kernels

2. A means to block internet access (but allow server access) from selected workstations based on the MAC addresses of the workstation NICs and a Manager panel to suit, of course.

2.4.9 or above kernel should be good. (2.4.9-13 from last redhat update for example)
I was told there is no more problem with iptable/netfilter and irc, netmeeting & quake. No answer for icq ...
2.2 kernel is really problematic for me and I'm sure I'm not the only one.

Lets not forget that the 2.2 kernel that is standard does not support dual athlons, where as the 2.4 does.

How does the dual Athlon run in a server environment?

I use a dual PIII 933MHz server for most tasks and now with the low loads that e-smith uses i use a P200 for a mail server

There's been postings on these forums that suggests that dual athlons are not supported by the current SME kernels.

I am also interested in knowing for certain if this is the case or not. When asked for comment, E-smith / Mitel merely stated that SME is SMP capable but did not clarify if dual athlons are also supported in addition to dual Intels.
