Are any plans made to upgrade to 2.4 kernel...?
Thanks
PS.. And (to all developers involved), thanks for a such a great software...

Lots of people seem to want a 2.4 kernel, but no-one seems to say why. Exactly what functionality do you think you are missing out on in 2.2?

IPtables are so much better, faster, easier and more escalable than ipchains for advanced routing, especially traffic shaping.

pppoa support is not available in 2.2

More importantly to me is for the new kernel (or the corresponding clibs) to overcome the 2GB file size limits. From time to time, there will be those who will be immediately put off by SME because of the 2GB limit problem ( irregardless of whether or not they will EVER have a file of that size ).
Additionally, as and when a new kernel is chosen, let it be one from the usual distribution kernels so that we have a hope of getting hardware driver support for it -- on going issue of not being able to get 2.2.19 drivers for certain devices. Yes, yes, there is still insistence that 2.2.19 is a standard RH 7.0 kernel BUT I maintain that if you went to any RedHat mirror and downloaded RH 7.0 or 7.1 from the publicly available sites, neither one is based on kernel 2.2.19 and therefore drivers that are available for RH 7.0 and 7.1 may not work with SME.

I'd *love* to see a 2.4.x kernel so we could use all those lovely cheap ATA100/RAID cards out there that are only supported in the 2.4.x kernel. I've got a Promise TX2 Ultra100 sat waiting for the day....and yes, I know that the software RAID is better than these cards but I only want the ATA100 functionality as my box only has ATA33 on board.
Bought it on the understanding from the Promise website that it worked under the 2.2.x kernel and can't get more than 1.5Mb/s out of it...the moral of the story? Don't believe the hype...

I seem to believe we can't use ACLs in Samba v2.2.2 without a 2.4 kernel.
