Hi Stuart,
Have a look at http://home.iprimus.com.au/michaelmaxwell/ - [Mgetty under e-smith] This will give you some idea on the subject.

Have a look at the uers 'howto's there is an add on package for e-smith that has been recently updated to support e-smith 4.1.2 dial in.
I am currently using it on an ADSL connected e-smith box for exactly what you are proposing.

Thanks for your reply Rod. This is what i wanted and i may have time this weekend to have a look at it. I thank you peter for asking the question i was going to ask.I had not found the information either. Which package did you install Rod?
-
Depends upon which version of e-smith you are running. The HowTo details which version to use depending upon the version of e-smith.

Many thanks Rod I will have a look at it ASAP

Greetings,
I am also tring to get this to work. Last night I down loaded
mgetty 1.1.25-5.i386. Tryed to follow the instruction on this web site http://home.iprimus.com.au/michaelmaxwell/Mgettyundere-smith.html
but not much success. when I try to install mgetty with this command "rpm -Uhv mgetty-x.i386.rpm --nodeps" I get no such file exists. so I type this command "rpm -i mgetty-x.i386.rpm" it installs. I used Mc to edit the login.config file I added this line
"/AutoPPP/ - - /usr/sbin/pppd auth -chap +pap login debug lock"
then I edit the dialin.config to add the phone numbers extension that I would allow to connect "459, 245, 426"
I wasn't to sure if I was doing this part right.
I then wanted to test the modem witch is a external 56k us robotics modem I think it is connected on com 2 but I am not sure. when I type
"/sbin/mgetty ttyS0" to check com 1 and It just hangs there for a minute and nothing happens just goes back to the prompt#.
I type this command "/sbin/mgetty ttyS1" to check com 2
and it just blinks and goes back to the prompt#
I tryed to dail the number but the modem doesn't anwser.
Any other sugestion ?
Any help would be much Appreciated.
Thanks
