Our diald log almost made me fall off my chair over the weekend!
You see, we once had a problem (actually, it was our -then- ISP's
problem) of dialing, having our call answered at the ISP's end (ie,
line state became OffHook, at their end), but modem tones came
- at the earliest - 2.75 minutes -after- the ISP answered our calls!
(Thus, we - who are charged for each local call - were getting big
telephone bills... and reduced Internet access, as a result of the
above problem recurring. Our SME Server wasn't to blame, ex-
cept for not giving up after some unsuccesful retries...)
Wish 1: That SME Server would -stop- ringing out
after 'n' failed attempts
Now, back to our regularly scheduled Wish... ;-)
Well, with the above horror story in our not too distant memories,
you can imagine how we felt - as we checked a recent diald log
and saw a HUGE list of "Calling site " one every minute!
Fortunately, this resulted from our -intentionally- terminating our
ISP connection [at a time at which they would have, otherwise,
charged us "overtime" rates], but leaving the SME Server running
Wish 2: It would be really nice if the diald log would NOT have an
entry if the system can sense modem offline/switched off
(ie if it wasn't possible to confirm that dialing has ocurred,
I don't want a line in the diald log suggesting that is had)
Too easy, eh? ;-)
(I hope so! Nobody here wants a heart attack any time soon! ;-)
