Title: Settable Primary i-bay permissions
Post by: Sean Kelly on November 26, 2002, 11:34:06 AM
G'day,

It would be really good if SME-Server would allow me to set the permissions for the Primary web site the same way as I can for hand-crafted i-bays, and indeed for the i-bay security to be expanded a little bit.

What I want to achieve is to set the Primary as requiring the user to put in a valid username/password.

Also, having the i-bays as requiring a legitimate username/password when accessing them via web or ftp woould be good, too. I'd rather have that than the i-bay name/password, or even a choice of either or both.

Admittedly, I think the development team has stated that this may be tricky...

Hi,

There is a way to achieve what you want...

First of all, do not use your real domain name in the server configuration.
Let's say your FQDN is www.mydomain.com, call you domain e.g. mydomain.net

Create a Ibay with the content and permissions you would like to have as you primary (e.g. mydomain)

Create a virtual domain according to your real domain name (mydomain.com) and assign the newly created Ibay mydomain to it as the web content.

That's it.

Shouldn´t be easier to use :
chown .GROUP_NAME /home/e-smith/files/primary

where .GROUP_NAME is a group of web designer / people able to edit primary web site!

Maybe it's easier, but on the other hand, I like not to break a standard install by using custom modifications unless there is no other way.

I don´t think this is a BIG modification... It´s more like  a hack to allow a group to edit primary ibay...

It easier that anything till Mitel modify primary ibay to become a standard ibay like Sean suggest!

I agree on that one. The primary should have all the options like an ibay.

Well, we all try to accomplish things out 'own' way.

Thanks for the feedback.
