Post by: NeilC on April 07, 2003, 02:14:47 PM
Anyone worked out how to get e-smith to support ADSL modems. Is this support planned for the future...

I have sort of. You need to download eciadsl rpm from http://eciadsl.flashtux.org/ and install it. There is a dependency on a file called wish which you can ignore. Once installed goto /usr/local/bin and run ./eciconftxt.sh which will walk you through the config. Its pretty straight forward and reliable. Once configured you can type 'startmodem' to connect.

I have put 'startmodem near the end of my /etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit file so that the ADSL connects automatically after a reboot.

So it all seems to work except for this part: I have configured the gateway as a dedicated connection and it has picked up the correct IP address, but it only allows me web access. Nothing else seems to work. I think this is becuase the config databases are using eth1 not ppp0 for the external interface device name. If anyone can tell me how to change this I would be grateful.

Hello Jonty

I visited the mentioned site and couldnt find the Acer AAU-AE00 or the Allied Telesyn AT-AR 215 modem. Both seem to share the same hardware (?) and there is a linux-driver available. It is called the "eagle-driver" and comes from France.
I found it at www.eagle-usb.eisfront.de.

Version 0.4 works with both of the above mentioned modems. There is also a precompiled archive for the Redhat based IP-cop router, that might work together with the e-smith server.

I would like to combine this driver with the eciadsl.rpm

Hi Quadrax,

My French is to bad for this mail - Sorry, what about your German?

There is a driver available for the acer usb-modem. If the alcatel-modem  would be just another brand of the same hardware, you can try it. I guess, it is the acer ATA AU 2015, but Im not shure. You can find further details at the usb-eisfront page. Try it with google or wait until Tuesday 10th of June. Then I´ll be back home and can have a look in my scripts.
