My e-smith 4.1 server seems to no longer be able to start Appletalk.. I know this worked at one point, but now no longer does. Messages from my bootlog are as follows:
Jul 4 11:25:09 myserver atalk: Starting AppleTalk service
Jul 4 11:25:09 myserver atalk: (backgrounded)
Jul 4 11:25:09 myserver rc: Starting atalk: succeeded
Jul 4 11:25:09 myserver atalkd: AppleTalk not up! Child exited with 1.
Jul 4 11:25:09 myserver atalk: atalkd startup failed
Unfortunately, I'm not completely familiar with what I should be looking for in the AppleTalk startup process. Any suggestions as to where I might want to look next?

Turns out this was a problem only when running the smp kernel. With the uniprocessor kernel, it works fine. Upgrading the server to 4.12 took care of the problem, and it now seems to work fine when using smp.
