Title: dvd burners
Post by: mike churchill on July 07, 2003, 06:45:21 PM
is it possible to use an IDE DVD burner with SME 5.6? i have a small amount of data (approx 2-4 gig) and would like to use a DVDRW rather than pay a lot more money for a DAT drive or DDS system. i have though about extra hard disks etc, but the DVDRW system would suit me better. hope someone can help.

Yes, it's possible. I used the dvd+rw-tools and not the dvdrecord tools. The rpm which are available are not compatible with SME 5.6 which is based on RedHat 7.3. The solution is to download the source from:

http://fy.chalmers.se/~appro/linux/DVD+RW/tools/

To compile this tool, you need gcc and gcc++

At this moment you have to run it at the command line. I'am trying to make it as add-on for SME
