I really like flexbackup as a way to backup the local server, but from my experience with putting SME Server in small businesses, I see a need to have functionality added to SME Server so that it becomes the central backup server. The way that I see it Mitel could add a clients section on the CD for various client desktop platforms for unison if the server end of unison was included with SME Server and flexbackup could be used. Alternatively, Mitel could switch from flexbackup to Bacula (www.bacula.org) and include the Bacula client daemons on the CD.
Any thoughts?

Klaus, I'm not looking for help with a backup solution. If I was looking for help, I would have used another forum. Because this is the "Wish List" forum, I thought that it would be appropriate to voice my wish for future versions of SME Server to serve as a centralized backup server, and I made a recommendation for a change in the current backup software. Unison and Bacula are "free as in beer" and "free as in speech" and either (or both) would make a great addition to future releases.

I just installed the sme server at a new client site and that was one of the first questions the client asked: Could this baby back up my 5 workstations?
I put together an rsync solution that did the trick but it would be nice to have a centralized backup solution (that does not require a tape drive!) in the sme server panel. I've used Bacula in the past and it does a great job on small (5-30) node networks. I really like the Arkeia interface but you need a scsi tape drive for the free licensed version - it won't back up to disk.
I agree, a centralized backup server admin section would be a really slick addition to the server panel.
