Title: users

I have a site that uses e-smith as a stand alone server. I will convert it to a dial up firewall/router soon. It is a standard e-smith 3.0 install.  Each of the Workstations is running Window 98, Second Edition. Each has been assigned an email address on the e-smith server.  In each instance the user name and password are identical. I.E. user nname "doug" has a password of "doug"' user name "kelly" has a password of "kelly". All are assigned to a workgroup of "office". Doug is the problem. He is denied access to the server. e-smith asks for a password and non is accepted. All the other users are given access to their personal file areas and the ibay that has no password requirements and is shared by all local users. Any ideas? TAI :-)

Make sure that you apply at least the latest e-smith RPM before you do that. 3.0 standard is an open email relay.

Doug's password was rejected as too short (is my guess) and the
e-smith interface has lost that information in the translation.

Get your users to choose decent passwords and Doug will be in...

My guess is there is an e-smith bug which will need to be weeded out. Changes in the password system are already on the TODO list.

I too believe it is a password issue. However one of the users is tom with a PW of "tom" and his works.  I will remove doug and then reenter him with a longer passwrod to see if that helps. At this installation passwords are not really important, just a requirement of the network. With regard to upgrading to 3.1 I could easily download the data files to one of the WSs and then just do a full 3.1 install. Do you feel that would help? TIA :-)
