LinuxFormat magazine in the UK had e-smith on its front cover CD and as I was investigating using things like Linux Mandrake Single network firewall, and their Corporate Server product I thought I would try e-smith out.
My PC is a Dell OptiPlex GX1 Pentium 3 with 128Mb RAM.
After booting from the CD it went through the installation process without any sign of a problem.
After reboot, I was expecting the configuration screen to appear but I just get the standard login prompt. I can log in with the default password as root. If I try and run some of the commands in the /sbin/e-smith/ directory I get Perl errors about strict.pm.
Is there anything I could try to kick off the configuration process or is there a problem with the software from the cover CD?
Regards,
Gordon.

There's a fix for this posted on the front page of www.e-smith.org; take a look there.

Apologies. I did search the forums but could not see the wood for the trees.
Thanks for the quick reply.

I followed the instructions and it all runs up fine now, and I look forward to trying out this software.
