I recently upgraded SME Server from 5.6 to 6.0, and the message deletion behavior is showing an unpleasant change. Here is what's happening: I set up Outlook Express to access the server in IMAP mode. When I delete a message, OE puts a red X on the message icon and does strike-through on the name, subject, date, etc. If I change to another folder or exit OE, the messages that have been marked for deletion stay put until I tell OE to purge the folder.
This behavior isn't happening after the upgrade to SME Server 6.0. If I leave the folder or exit OE, all messages marked for deletion are automatically purged when I come back to the folder. This is not how that function is supposed to work. Anybody else seen this misbehavior? Any ideas how I can fix it? Using a client other than Outlook Express isn't an option right now....

Look at your settings:
extra->options-> maintenance->2d checkbox.

Where did you find these menu items? They don't exist on the SME Server 6.0 manager screen or in Outlook Express.

Hi,
It is in Lookout Express, Tools, options, maintenance.
I hope this helps.

I found it: Tools -> Options... -> Maintenance -> Purge deleted items when leaving IMAP folders.
Here's the strange part: I never checked that box in the first place. When I was running SME Server 5.6, deleted messages stayed put until I told OE to purge them. After I upgraded the server to 6.0, that box mysteriously got checked all by itself.
Since I'm running a Microsoft e-mail client, I guess I shouldn't be surprised.... :roll:
